| MORE THAN A SHOE; IT’S A
STORY . . .
What makes a Romika a Romika? Simple: It is our special sole! First, there’s the material: Romika uses a polyurethane bottom material, or PU for short. It’s sophisticated stuff, our own recipe called "Purisoft". Romika is a leader in PU technology, developing the process over 50 years. "Purisoft" is good chemistry! A mixing of two polymers releases heat and gas that form the micro fine pockets throughout the soles compound. It is these thousands of tiny air pockets, or bubbles, which create, in effect, a natural cushion for the feet. By changing the mixture of these two polymers, Romika regulates the density of the bottoms to match the shape or heel height, thus creating the desired softness or firmness of the sole. The Romika sole is lightweight and flexible! Here’s the secret of the Romika Sole. The bottoms are at the same time soft and giving, but also provide the proper firmness for greater support. No matter the density or the bottom style Romikas always maintain their shape. Unlike cheaper materials, our Purisoft never becomes too rigid. Our bottom sole is so incredibly durable that it almost never needs to be resoled. At Romika; We say our soles are everything! That is, the Romika sole is the bottom sole, the midsole, the top-sole and the foot bed all in one. Romika builds into every bottom an anatomically contoured foot bed that includes a heel cup, arch support, and side lateral supports we call "ears". These "ears" are most noticeable on the classic Mokasso group. On some bottoms an additional metatarsal support and toe ridge is added. These anatomically correct foot beds evenly distribute body weight over the entire surface of the foot, giving the proper support for your whole body. In many Romikas the foot actually sits down inside the foot bed. To achieve the right amount of flexibility and firmness, Romika builds into many bottoms, a skeletal system of shanks and supports. It’s easy to make a bottom feel soft and squishy, but too soft is not comfortable over a long day of standing or walking. The Romika sole is always just right, engineered for lightness, flexibility and support. The Romika sole is "injection molded". This is not a simple unit bottom you are looking at. While most bottoms are prefabricated, and then attached to the upper with glue, stitching or nails, the Romika bottom is individually molded to each upper. The PU, in liquid form is injected into the mold (holding the upper). The PU hardens and permanently fuses into one piece with the upper. There is absolutely no chance of separation. Thus we get the term "direct injection molding’. That’s the factory’s fancy name for the process; we simply call it the Romika Sole. The other big advantage of these direct injected PU bottoms is that they can be shaped and contoured to any specification. This is where Romika gets its unique bottom shapes; and this is where the contoured foot bed and support system is formed. The Romika shoe simply feels great! The most obvious advantage is that the Romika molds to the foot. Your foot and your Romika become one. |
